I create Japanese dolls sculptures using a variety of origami papers, washi (heavy papers screen-printed with the patterns of antique Japanese silk kimonos), and rice paper. The dolls’ hair is sculpted with crepe paper, and I use old Japanese prints to inspire me as I create their individual hairstyles.
I use the same washi and other art papers to create hand-made greeting cards and bookmarks. Some of my cards are decorated with my own watercolors, and layered with washi.
When making my handbags I use all new fabrics in various bright colors, and sew each bead on the front by hand. Each handbag is fully lined with coordinating fabric, and has a pocket sewn into the lining. The purse is approximately 13"x8", not including the handle; the little clutch is 7"x6", and has a snap closing. |
