Treasured lands belonging to the public and private citizens are subjects I often paint with a goal of capturing the scene at a peak moment that will stay in a viewer’s memory. I use watercolor as a tool to express my attraction for strong composition and rich color. I am able to easily paint on location or in my studio. It is transported easily and can be used on the spur of the moment when the excitement of a scene or idea is fresh.
As a landscape painter, I have been influenced by the Early California School of watercolor painters who roamed the state from the 1930's through the 1950's. They painted plein air to interpret not only the physical elements of the scene but also the mood. I paint scenes of land, sea, and structures. I am drawn to nature, agriculture, and the relationship between man and the land with focus on the vibrant, luminous colors and the dynamic compositions available in nature.
I have taught watercolor classes and workshops since 1993 and do demonstrations on a regular basis. I am a Central Coast Watercolor Society Signature Member and a member of SLOPE (San Luis Outdoor Painters of the Environment), which raises awareness of our natural environmental resources. I am a part owner of the Gallery at the Network in downtown San Luis Obispo, CA.
